Job Summary
Direct and control the operation of the Bakery Department to achieve sales and profit objectives by planning, organizing, and directing daily activities including proofing, baking, decorating, slicing, and packaging fresh products. Champion corporate customer service programs, oversee inventory levels, and maintain accurate logs for sales, labor, and purchase reports. Supervise and train Meat Department personnel, monitor performance, and recommend hiring, firing, or disciplinary action to the Store Director. Ensure full compliance with food safety, sanitation, and retail labeling laws while resolving customer complaints and handling special orders. Operate equipment such as ovens, mixers, and slicers, and manage promotional displays to prevent shrink and control expenses.
Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Cake Decorator, Baker, and Sales Associate job duties
- Strong communication skills
- Good leadership and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to manage people
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor in dealing with customers and co-workers
- Knowledge of product variety, bakery standards, perishability, food safety, safety and sanitation procedures and department policies and procedures
- Ability to operate computer software and electronic ordering devices to order and label products, plan sales, inventory and scheduling
- Good understanding of overall Company practices and Bakery Department policies and procedures
- Ability to judge and react to business activity
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 40 pounds
- Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination
- Ability to operate related equipment such as: oven, mixers, microwave oven, bread slicer, scales and proof boxes
- Ability to use work aids such as knives, scrapers and decorating tools
- Ability to use trash compactor and baler
- Mental alertness
- Knowledge of basic math and weights and measures
- Basic knowledge of employment laws and workplace practices
- Extensive working knowledge of profit and loss statements
- Ability to comply with and ensure compliance with Company grooming standards and dress code
- Ability to use cleaning supplies, including chemicals, and equipment
- Ability to use plastic or latex gloves
- Occasional travel, including overnight travel
- Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
- Good attendance
