Job Summary
Greet customers warmly, assist with product selection and heavy purchases, and process payments at the register. Prepare, finish, and replenish baked goods by pulling items from coolers or freezers, while monitoring freshness and supply levels throughout the shift. Maintain proper sanitation, keep work areas clean, and remove trash in a timely manner. Check in product, review invoices, and operate the department register where applicable. Follow written and verbal instructions, use basic math skills for transactions, and communicate clearly with customers and teammates. Work alongside store management and department staff to ensure a smooth, positive experience in the busy bakery environment.
Required Qualifications
- ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
- exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
- ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
- ability to follow written and verbal instructions with confidence
- ability to use basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording
- ability to communicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way
- ability to stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy bakery environment
- ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
- ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
- ability to maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre employment drug screen
Desired Qualifications
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred
