Bakery Assistant Department Manager

Job Summary

Oversee bakery operations and lead the team of bakers, stepping in to manage the department during the manager's absence. Train new associates on pastry offerings and food service standards, conduct performance reviews, and maintain inventory while ensuring accurate pricing and cleanliness. Deliver outstanding guest service by helping customers find products, taking special orders, and addressing concerns professionally. Keep accurate food safety logs, adhere to company policies, and collaborate with store and bakery directors to ensure smooth daily functions. Manage timekeeping accuracy, communicate with HR regarding scheduling issues, and perform other duties as needed to support team productivity.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • WI Certified Food Manager License
  • Ability to stand in place for long periods of time
  • Ability to walk in the store
  • Ability to bend, stoop and kneel regularly (50% of time)
  • Fine finger and broad manual dexterity
  • Eye-hand-foot coordination
  • Full range of upper body motion
  • Ability to occasionally lift stock
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time
  • Functional sensory abilities
  • Ability to visually monitor the store
  • Ability to create attractive displays
  • Ability to operate equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds on an occasional basis (30% of time)
  • Knowledge of power equipment including slicer, mixer, oven, knives and cutters, pallet or power jack, WAV, compactor, baler, and/or other baking equipment
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and all personnel
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety requirements and company policies
  • Ability to recognize and address safety hazards
  • Willingness to obtain proper training and knowledge for equipment and procedures
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team of bakers and pastry specialists
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of the food service industry and retail bakery operations
  • Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule
  • Adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences
  • Full-time availability
  • Availability for mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
