Job Summary
The Baker 1 in the Pastry Department will collaborate with the prepared foods team to produce and bake all of the Co-op’s cakes, pies, cookies, and bars in our commercial bakery and kitchen. The Baker 1 must be able to operate commercial bakery and kitchen equipment—including large batch mixers, stoves, ovens, and proofers—to prepare a variety of foods. You'll consistently maintain a friendly, open, and service-oriented attitude toward team members and store support staff. Prepare, bake, and finish bakery items per recipes; support opening, mid-shift, and closing duties; adapt to a fast-paced environment; follow food-safety and sanitation guidelines; read and follow recipes; communicate effectively with team; weekend and holiday shifts required. The role emphasizes attention to detail, reliable attendance, and the ability to stand for long periods. Required Qualifications
- At least 6 months of food service experience, institutional or commercial bakery preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, creative environment in an efficient manner
- Food and sanitation trained and certified or willingness to be if directed (ServSafe or similar)
- Familiarity with organic and natural foods
- Ability to read and speak English and perform basic math problems associated with recipes
- Ability to accurately and consistently follow recipes
