Job Summary
Develop the core of the new storytelling app in Kotlin, enabling customers to create personalized print products with minimal effort. Collaborate with frontend colleagues, product designers, and managers to design and develop new features and REST APIs. Proactively identify and communicate improvements in your own and your team's work, while giving and receiving constructive feedback to foster constant improvement. Share your expertise as a Backend Engineer with the Journi Team. This role is part of a small, high-impact team shaping a new product experience from the ground up for over 10 million users. Based in Vienna with a hybrid model (40% remote), the position offers a salary starting at €63,000 and includes comprehensive benefits like a company MacBook, daily meals, and German language lessons.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of development experience developing Backend applications
- Strong knowledge in any JVM based language (Either in Kotlin OR Java)
- Experience developing and designing REST APIs
- You know how to write automated unit tests with their respective mocks
- Experience working with any SQL database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB) and any NoSQL database (Redis, AWS DynamoDB, MongoDB)
- You have strong communication and collaboration skills
- You are constantly learning, asking for feedback, and self-motivated
- You have passion for solving problems
- You are permitted to work in the EU/Austria (OR have a degree in Computer Science which is required to apply for an Austrian work permit)
- You are able to relocate to / based in Vienna
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in prioritising workloads
- Experience with the following technologies: PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, AWS (S3, SQS, ECS, ECR, SES, RDS, CloudWatch, ElasticCache, CloudFront), GitLab, Datadog
- Experience working with statistical methods or machine learning algorithms
- Experience working with cross-functional teams
- CI/CD experience
- Kotlin experience (Coroutines, Ktor, familiarity with KMP)
- Experience with migrations from monolith to microservice infrastructure
