Backend Engineer – Level III (Java+Springboot)

Job Summary
Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend systems using Java and Spring Boot, architecting distributed solutions with Kafka Streams and real-time data frameworks. Develop and maintain RESTful APIs for seamless system integration while collaborating with DevOps teams to deploy applications on Kubernetes across AWS and GCP. Participate in on-call rotations for system reliability, perform monitoring and troubleshooting via Splunk and New Relic, and conduct code reviews to ensure maintainable codebases. Apply object-oriented design principles to create extensible solutions for mission-critical enterprise projects serving Fortune 100 retail, CPG, fintech, and Silicon Valley startups.
Required Qualifications
- COSTA RICA ONLY — Candidates must currently be living in Costa Rica
- 5-7 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend development
- Strong proficiency in Java and hands-on experience with Spring Boot
- Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka Streams and Apache Flink
- Deep understanding of object-oriented design principles and design patterns
- Hands-on experience with Kafka for message streaming and event-driven architectures
- Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools, especially Kubernetes
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and/or GCP
- Expertise in building and consuming RESTful APIs
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
