Job Summary
Design and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot, building RESTful APIs and microservices for large-scale digital platforms. Ensure application performance, scalability, and security while implementing CI/CD pipelines and participating in deployment processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior developers. Work three days per week onsite in Swansea within an agile environment focused on user-centred design and scalable digital services.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Familiarity with Hibernate / JPA
- Experience with messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Experience with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong database knowledge (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.)
- Understanding of secure coding practices and application performance tuning
- Experience with Git and Agile methodologies
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in regulated or standards-driven environments (e.g., public sector digital services or GDS-aligned projects)
- Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, etc.)
- Relevant certifications in Java or cloud platforms
