Job Summary
B Class Structural Fitter role performing shipfitting, fit-up, cutting, grinding, and gouging of plates and weldments on marine vessels. Responsibilities include interpreting engineering sketches, completing work with minimal supervision, maintaining safety and quality standards, and ensuring proper use of shop tools and equipment. Must obtain B Class Weld Certifications for aluminum and/or steel, demonstrate proficiency in layout and fitting, and comply with company safety and equal opportunity policies. Willingness to work any shift and to train lower-skilled workers is required; physical demands include climbing, lifting, and working in varying environments.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months’ experience as a Trade Assistant at Austal or 1 year related experience in similar industry
- Pass approved B Class Fitter test for Aluminum and/or Steel
- Must demonstrate the ability to interpret job specifications and perform work on marine vessels
- Knowledge of equipment, work processes and techniques used in measuring, and fitting of aluminum and/or steel components, modules and vessels
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and measure using the metric system
- Willing to work with and train lower-skilled workers
- 18 years of age or older; US Person Status; no felony convictions; drug screen; background check
