Job Summary
Azure Data Engineer role focused on designing, developing, and maintaining ETL data pipelines in PySpark within Azure Synapse Analytics. Responsibilities include building and optimizing ETL processes, designing data warehouses with star schemas, extracting data from REST APIs, SQL databases, and CSV files, and implementing data quality checks. The engineer will model data with architects, optimize performance, monitor ETL jobs, document data flows, collaborate with data scientists and analysts, ensure security and governance, and contribute to data fabric concepts like data lakes and lakehouses. The position emphasizes working with Python (PySpark) in Azure Synapse notebooks/pipelines, ensuring reliable data availability for analytics and decision-making, and supporting cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience
- certifications related to data engineering or data science (e.g. Azure Data Engineer) being a plus
- Significant experience in ETL data engineering with Python (PySpark) for ETL from REST APIs, SQL databases, and CSV files
- Proficiency with Azure Synapse Analytics resources including Notebooks, Pipelines, Linked Services, and Azure Key Vault
- Strong SQL skills (SparkSQL and MS SQL) to extract, transform, and load data
- Familiarity with big data technologies, data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and Agile methodologies
- Ability to write complex SQL queries and optimize performance
- Experience with version control systems (Git, Azure DevOps)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of data integration best practices and tools
- Experience with data governance, security, and privacy standards
- Experience with data modeling and data warehousing concepts
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
