Job Summary
Azure Data Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining ETL data pipelines using Python (PySpark) within Azure Synapse Analytics, ensuring accurate, scalable data delivery for analytics. Responsibilities include building data warehousing structures in an MPP SQL environment, extracting data from REST APIs, SQL tables, and CSV files, implementing data quality checks, optimizing ETL notebooks/pipelines for performance, monitoring data workflows, documenting processes, and collaborating with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders. Must leverage Azure Synapse resources, apply data fabric concepts (data lakes, lakehouses, delta lakes, data cataloging), and support data governance and security. Strong focus on data modeling, performance tuning, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced consultancy setting.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience
- Proven experience in ETL data engineering using Python (PySpark) to extract, transform, and load from REST APIs, SQL database tables, and CSV files
- Proficiency in Azure Synapse Analytics resources including Notebooks, Pipelines, Linked Services, and Azure Key Vault
- Demonstrated ability to write complex SQL queries, optimize query performance, and work with SparkSQL and MS SQL
- Knowledge of data integration best practices and tools
- Experience with version control systems, such as Git (Azure DevOps)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with shifting priorities
- Familiarity with big data technologies, machine learning, and data analysis (preferred)
- Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and Agile methodologies (a plus)
