Job Summary
Azerbaijani Translator to support the Department of Justice with translation, interpretation, transcription and other Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include translating documents and media in various formats, interpreting in court and deposition settings, and handling a wide range of terminology (legal, medical, financial, scientific, historical, military) with strict confidentiality. Requires at least 2 years of translation experience, ILR 3 or equivalent, U.S. citizenship, and 1 year of experience in a law enforcement or legal department. Candidate must have lived in the U.S. for at least 3 of the last 5 years, be fluent in English and Azerbaijani with strong terminology skills, and be proficient with CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio). Active Public Trust or higher security clearance is required. Remote work is available with National Capital Region and CONUS locations; some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in translation
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (does not have to be consecutive)
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication in various contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and foreign language related to Government’s varied roles and missions
- Write in native language fluently, with professional command of non-native language
- Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source language materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
