Job Summary
AVP Team Manager – General Liability leads a claims team in a hybrid environment, responsible for staffing, overseeing incoming/reopened/complex claims, applying Best Practices (reserve-setting, coverage analyses, claim-handling strategy), driving KPIs, reviewing coverage denials, managing litigation strategy, and collaborating with Claims, Underwriting, and Actuarial teams. The role requires mentoring staff, escalating issues to senior management, and delivering excellent customer service while scaling the business. Requires JD (ABA-accredited), extensive claims-handling and management experience, and license readiness. Salary range $120k-$170k; hybrid schedule with two office days weekly.
Required Qualifications
- JD from a law school with ABA accreditation (counts as additional claims handling experience)
- At least 10 years of experience in handling claims
- 5+ years of Commercial General Liability claims experience (Bodily Injury, Product Liability, Personal and Advertising Injury, 3rd Party Property Damage)
- 4+ years of Claims management experience
- Expert knowledge of claims handling practices (coverage analysis, litigation management, negotiation)
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Ability to manage across Claims, Underwriting, and Actuarial teams; data-driven decision making
- Ability to hire, train, motivate, coach, and provide performance feedback
- Insurance adjuster license(s) or willingness to obtain them
- Hybrid work arrangement with at least two days in the office per week
- Demonstrated leadership and team-management capabilities
