Job Summary
Establish and secure approval of goals and policies for systems engineering and streetcar projects with broad decision-making latitude. Direct and oversee personnel engaged in systems engineering project development, design, construction, and engineering analysis for vehicles, signals, communications, traction power, and fare collection. Manage assigned projects, instruct consultants and contractors, and monitor performance to ensure compliance with DART standards while identifying risks and recommending changes. Direct department staffing, succession planning, and performance management; interview, select, supervise, and evaluate subordinate personnel. Coordinate with Operations and Maintenance for asset repair and modernization, administer the State of Good Repair Program, and manage the Dallas Streetcar contract including budget development and performance metrics. Prepare reports for executive and Board review and serve as the primary interface between construction contractors and the engineering team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Urban Planning, Architecture or related field
- Six (6) years progressively responsible experience in managing engineering and/or construction projects and contracts
- Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen to operate DART non-revenue vehicles
- Knowledge of budget development/analysis, and operational cost factors
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures
- Proficiency in PC and knowledge of software applications, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications of Word and Excel or other job-related software applications
- Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to complex interpersonal, technical, and administrative problems
- Ability to accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects

Desired Qualifications
- Transit experience is preferred
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred for this position to apply prudent engineering principals and standards within management portfolio
