Job Summary
AVP, Internal Audit – Business Assurance leads a multi-portfolio, risk-based assurance program across P&C Operations, Nationwide Financial Operations, and Corporate Functions. Responsible for risk assessments, scoping, control testing, issue identification, and reporting; partners with IA leadership to identify and assess operational, financial, regulatory and technology risks; drives adoption of data analytics, process mining, automation, and visualization; ensures effective design and operating controls, and provides clear actionable insights to senior leaders. Leads a team of four direct reports and ~11 indirect reports, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability while maintaining alignment with Nationwide values. Requires strong audit leadership, strategic planning, and deep knowledge of financial services/insurance, with the ability to execute risk-based audits and deliver process improvements across the end-to-end lifecycle. Travel may be required. Education and certifications as noted; advanced degree preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field
- Advanced degree (e.g., MBA or relevant master’s in Accounting, Finance, Risk Management) preferred
- Professional certifications such as CISM, CISSP, CICS, or similar strongly preferred
- Typically 10 or more years of progressive experience in internal audit, accounting, finance, operations or risk management
- Knowledge of property & casualty insurance and/or financial services a plus
- Strong communication skills; ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
