Job Summary
AVP for Human Resources at St. John Fisher University reports to the Chief Financial Officer and leads strategic and operational HR initiatives to advance the university’s mission. Responsibilities include overseeing HR programs and services for faculty, staff, and administrators, ensuring policy compliance and employment-law alignment, guiding HR leadership and service delivery, and representing HR on university-wide committees. Key focus areas are leadership and strategy, talent management (recruitment, onboarding, retention), employee development, employee relations, performance management, policy development and regulatory compliance (ACA, FLSA, ERISA, FMLA, NYSPFL, HIPAA, ADA, COBRA), total rewards (compensation and benefits), and organization-wide change management. The role requires managing the HR budget, driving workforce planning, and ensuring equity and effectiveness of HR practices. Requirements include a Master’s degree and at least 8 years of HR leadership experience; preferred JD and SHRM-SCP/SPHR certifications. Work location is on campus at 3690 East Ave., Rochester, NY 14618 with a 12-month, 35-hour workweek; exempt salary range $142,000–$167,000 per year.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in higher education
- Demonstrated expertise in employment law, regulatory compliance (federal and New York State), employee relations, and strategic HR planning
- Financial expertise in budget management and vendor oversight
- Experience driving change management and process improvement initiatives
