Job Summary
Assistant Vice President Underwriter in Retail Excess Casualty at Sompo, based in New York, NY. Responsible for prioritizing and evaluating new and renewal submissions, assessing risk characteristics to determine capacity, attachment points, terms, and pricing; authorizing quotes, binders, and invoices within authority; expanding the portfolio by cultivating broker/client relationships; representing the company in meetings and events; and collaborating with cross-functional teams including business development, claims, legal, and actuarial. Travel to market territory (up to 25%) is required to support market engagement and book growth, with a focus on profitability and underwriting discipline aligned to company guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- minimum of 8 years underwriting experience
- strong expertise in Excess Casualty insurance
- ability to travel to market territory (25% overnight travel)
- sound judgement, negotiation and decision-making
- excellent verbal and written communication
- collaborative team player with insureds, agents, and brokers, as well as cross-functional teams
