Job Summary
AVP & Counsel role providing tax law analysis, advice, and representation before tax authorities to support life insurance, annuity, and long-term care product lines; responsibilities include advising on tax compliance and structuring, drafting/reviewing policy forms and marketing materials for tax-related content, supporting product filings, monitoring regulatory developments, assisting with IRS audits and inquiries, and ensuring compliance with federal/state tax withholding and reporting; requires JD, active U.S. bar, and 5+ years of tax-law experience with a focus on insurance products, plus strong drafting, research, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience in tax law, ideally with a focus on life insurance products
- Strong knowledge of U.S. federal income tax laws
- Familiarity with IRS guidance, court decisions, and insurance company practices concerning taxation of insurance products
- Experience working in a law firm or insurance company
- Strong research, drafting, and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
