Job Summary
Conduct daily tutoring sessions for assigned students in math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and study skills. Evaluate student binders and grade portfolios, including calendars and notes, while managing learning materials for specific lessons. Facilitate tutorial sessions during the school day with flexible hours, sometimes before or after school, and assess student progress to communicate honestly with the AVID teacher. Maintain confidentiality, use technology to strengthen the teaching process, and compile all required reports and records. Attend AVID Tutorology training and model goal setting to ensure the academic and social success of each student.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
- Health and physical qualifications appropriate for the demands of the position
- Possess excellent communication skills to include ability to work well with teenagers, and adults
- Demonstrate competence to the interviewer of skill in the core content areas math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Reading
- Ability to be prompt and have reliable attendance on scheduled days
- Excellent presentation skills, organization skills, and basic technology skills
- Twelve (12) semester hours of college preferred or currently enrolled in a college program
- Ability to read, concentrate, communicate effectively (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute, analyze, differentiate
- Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
- Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
- Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
- Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds
