Job Summary
Conduct structural aerospace engineering support for the Army's Aviation Engineering Directorate by applying classical methods and finite element modeling to evaluate design alternatives, repairs, and redesign efforts ensuring structural integrity and airworthiness of US Army Aircraft. Perform static stress analysis and load distribution calculations using NASTRAN, FEMAP, or ABAQUS for new designs, modifications, and structural repairs. Develop airworthiness criteria, test plans, and flight envelope restrictions while evaluating flight test and laboratory data to establish fatigue lives and retirement times. Review airworthiness releases and safety messages, providing on-site support for structural flight and bench testing. Requires an active Secret clearance, BS/MS degree, and 5+ years of structural analysis experience; based at Redstone Arsenal, AL.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years with BS
- 3 Years with an MS
- Active/current DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain an interim Secret
- U.S. citizenship
- Experience performing structural analysis of airframe structure, static and fatigue
- Experience performing Finite Element Analysis using NASTRAN, FEMAP, or ABAQUS
- Knowledge/Experience with structural bench testing, static and fatigue of aircraft structural components
- Experience with structural flight testing, such as Flight Load Surveys
- Experience supporting airframe production programs, to include MRB and salvage efforts
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity/Experience with Tilt Rotor Aircraft
- Experience with analysis of rotorhead (dynamic) components a plus
- Strong Statistical background is desired
