Job Summary

Autonomy Validation Engineer responsible for system integration and validation activities within Caterpillar's Autonomous program. The role involves installing, integrating, validating, and troubleshooting autonomy hardware/software across HIL benches, with emphasis on planning, perception, and positioning sub-systems, as well as platform infrastructure like calibration, simulation, and data pipelines. Key tasks include developing MATLAB/Simulink real-time models for machine dynamics, configuring dSPACE SCALEXIO benches, wiring harness design and validation, verifying electrical interfaces, integrating CAN/J1939 and Ethernet/TCP-IP communications, validating sensor simulation (LiDAR, Radar, Camera, GPS, IMU), and conducting end-to-end autonomy validation workflows on HIL environments. The candidate will perform structured troubleshooting spanning software defects, interface mismatches, timing/network conflicts, and sensor simulations, implementing corrective actions with traceable artifacts. Strong emphasis on electrical/system-level troubleshooting, effective communication of status, and collaboration with autonomy validation engineers and support teams. Additional attributes include large-scale industry knowledge, problem-solving skills, software testing experience, and familiarity with AI concepts relevant to autonomous systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science, or an advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in related field
  • Experience with design, development, validation, or product support role of complex autonomous vehicle systems
  • Knowledge in iterative testing using agile methodologies
  • Understanding of V-model for verification & validation
  • Experience with model-based simulation programs
  • Extensive experience with electrical systems including harness & electrical integration, interface and sensors
  • Advanced data analysis and systems analysis efforts and skills
  • Good communication for technical status updates and coordinating with teams
  • Knowledge of AI concepts, technologies and methodologies
