Job Summary

Operate autonomous test vehicles in manual and autonomous modes up to 8 hours daily across diverse traffic conditions while adhering to safety protocols. Collect data using proprietary software and provide detailed feedback to engineers, simultaneously troubleshooting operational issues in real time with Mission Operations to meet mileage targets. Perform pre- and post-mission vehicle inspections and basic maintenance tasks such as washing and tire inflation. Occasionally educate the public on autonomous technologies and conduct high-profile ridealongs for leadership and stakeholders while maintaining situational awareness. Monitor onboard safety and navigational systems constantly. This 12-month full-time role is based in South San Francisco, with initial training in Santa Clara. The position offers a base hourly rate of $27 for afternoon/evening shifts, including weekend differentials, meal reimbursement, and medical benefits.

Required Qualifications

  • Current valid California driver's license
  • Possession of a US license for 3+ years
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test
  • Reliable work schedule: 5 days a week on one of the following shifts: Afternoon/Evening: 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Mon-Fri), Afternoon/Evening: 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Tue-Sat), Afternoon/Evening: 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Wed-Sun), Afternoon/Evening: 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Thu-Mon), Afternoon/Evening: 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Fri-Tue), Afternoon/Evening: 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Sat-Wed), Afternoon/Evening: 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Sun-Thu)
  • Ability to sit for 3 to 4 hours at a time for up to 8 hours per day in an enclosed vehicle alone or occasionally with a co-driver
  • Ability to bend, squat, stretch and lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to perform side and up/down movement of the head, neck, back and shoulders necessary to operate a vehicle safely
  • Ability to work in a vehicle that may brake, swerve, slow, or stop abruptly
  • Ability to hold and grasp with hands and frequent use of foot/feet to operate foot pedals when driving the vehicle

Desired Qualifications

  • Passion to learn about processes and autonomous vehicles
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to comfortably communicate through modern online collaboration platforms (e.g., Slack, Google Meet, or similar)
  • Comfort operating standard field equipment, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones, which are critical for documentation, training, and real-time workflow procedures
  • Strong problem-solving skills by remaining calm and resourceful under pressure to troubleshoot operational issues
  • Strong collaboration and time management skills and ability to work independently or in small groups for periods without direct supervision
  • Self-driven and ability to stay focused and goal oriented while adapting to frequent changes and evolving conditions
  • Proven record of reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance
