Job Summary
Lead the Rapid Prototyping Lab (RPL) at Argonne, directing infrastructure development for laboratory autonomy—encompassing physical autonomous laboratories, robotics laboratories, and software frameworks for autonomous science and robotics. Drive collaborations with domain scientists and partner institutions to demonstrate autonomous science capabilities, guide the RPL team in advancing laboratory autonomy and robotics, and mentor a diverse team of researchers and students. Leverage expertise across automated and autonomous platforms and AI/ML to accelerate discovery, contribute to MADSci open-source software, and publish results in refereed venues. Requires a completed Ph.D. and a minimum of 4+ years of related experience, strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills, and a track record of impactful scientific work across chemistry, biology, quantum science, or related domains.
Required Qualifications
- Completed Ph.D. in Computer Science, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
- minimum of 4+ years of related experience
- Proven research track record in deploying automated and autonomous platforms and AI/ML toward accelerating science
- Demonstrated ability to formulate scientific problems relevant to the DOE portfolio
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external collaborators
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork
- Experience guiding multidisciplinary teams including postdoctoral appointees, researchers, students, and technical staff
- Ability to publish in refereed journals and present at conferences, symposia, and seminars
