Automotive Service Manager

Job Summary

Set department goals, recruit and train service staff, and administer the annual operating budget. Monitor performance using reports and surveys, conduct weekly meetings, and direct employee activities. Develop marketing plans to promote new and repeat business while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Build positive customer relationships by providing prompt estimates, handling complaints, and following up within 24 hours to confirm satisfaction. Maintain cleanliness, ensure safe work environments, and serve as a liaison with factory representatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Two to four years related experience and/or training
  • Valid driver's license
  • Acceptable driving record consistent with company insurance standards
  • Positive leadership qualities

  • Ability to build repeat customer sales
  • Ability to deliver exceptional customer service experiences
  • Ability to foster harmony and teamwork within the department and across other departments

  • Knowledge of manufacturer warranty and policy procedures
  • Ability to maintain and process all necessary documents accurately
  • Ability to conduct weekly department meetings
  • Ability to direct and schedule activities of department employees
  • Ability to facilitate technical training and arrange employee attendance at training schools
  • Ability to monitor technicians' productivity and payroll records
  • Ability to review and initial repair orders before submitting them to the warranty department
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business
  • Ability to communicate time allowances to repair technicians for each order
  • Ability to ensure high-quality service repairs and minimize comebacks through periodic spot checks
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness in the work areas and customer waiting area
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with vocational and technical schools for recruitment purposes
  • Ability to serve as a liaison with factory representatives
  • Ability to ensure proper care, storage, and inventory of special tools
  • Ability to provide prompt and fair estimates to customers for repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to handle customer complaints promptly and according to dealership guidelines
  • Ability to follow up with customers within 24 hours to confirm satisfaction with service
  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance
