Automotive Financial Controller

Job Summary
Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, including OEM manufacturer reporting, and lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process. Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger activity while reviewing vehicle deal postings to validate gross profit accuracy. Reconcile balance sheet accounts, monitor cash flow, and coordinate annual audits alongside CRA, banking, and manufacturer requirements. Supervise the accounting team, develop SOPs, and implement automation initiatives to improve efficiency. Partner with dealership leadership, ownership, and external advisors on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Required Qualifications
- CPA designation required
- Automotive dealership accounting experience required
- Several years of progressive accounting experience within an automotive dealership environment
- Strong understanding of dealership financial statements and OEM reporting
- Experience with dealership month-end and year-end processes
- Experience reviewing vehicle deal postings and gross profit reporting
- Strong understanding of reconciliations, internal controls, and full-cycle accounting
- Dealer Management System experience required — PBS, CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, or similar
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced dealership environment
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- A continuous improvement mindset with an interest in technology, automation, and AI
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as a Dealership Controller
- Experience overseeing accounting for multiple rooftops
- Experience with multiple OEMs
- Experience preparing and submitting OEM dealer financial statements
- Previous supervisory or accounting management experience
- Multi-entity or multi-location dealership accounting experience
- Dealership payroll experience
- Experience with dealership budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Experience working directly with dealership ownership and General Managers
- Experience with dealership audits, CRA matters, banking relationships, and manufacturer requirements
