Job Summary
Coordinate and supervise automotive and diesel mechanics by assigning work, reviewing performance against quality standards, and documenting production levels. Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, computer, and hydraulic failures by analyzing schematics, interviewing operators, and determining repair costs. Fabricate and repair equipment using welders and various tools to replace unavailable parts or secure attachments. Calibrate heavy-duty vehicles, troubleshoot computerized systems, and install auxiliary equipment to ensure road readiness. Maintain hydraulics, steering, brake, and fuel systems while repairing diesel and gasoline engines. Manage inventory, order supplies, and maintain equipment history records in the computerized information management system. Report to work outside scheduled hours for snow and highway emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Practical work experience performing automotive/diesel maintenance and repair, including use of computerized diagnostic instruments and equipment
- Post high school vocational or technical coursework with an emphasis in automotive/diesel mechanics including instruction in computerized diagnostic equipment and experience working with automotive/diesel mechanical maintenance and repair practices, equipment, and technologies
- A degree in Automotive Diesel Mechanics, with experience in the repair of trucks or heavy equipment
- Experience in welding and fabrication
- Basic computer experience
- Possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days of hire through our in-house CDL training program
- A Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with O Restriction and tanker endorsement is required within 90 days of hire through our in-house CDL training program
- Must be able to report to work outside scheduled work hours for snow and other highway emergencies
Desired Qualifications
- A degree in Automotive Diesel Mechanics, with experience in the repair of trucks or heavy equipment
- Experience in welding and fabrication
- Basic computer experience
- Possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days of hire through our in-house CDL training program
- Costs to obtain the permit will be covered by the department
