Job Summary

Automation Technician responsible for engineering, testing, maintaining and supporting automation solutions in a manufacturing setting. The role involves programming logic-controlled equipment to meet production, quality, and safety expectations; providing technical automation support during production breakdowns and during new equipment installations, commissioning, retrofits, and continuous improvement projects; assisting in equipment malfunction investigations to improve reliability; performing setup and calibration for process and control instrumentation (flow meters, temperature and pressure transducers); programming parameters for variable frequency drives and servo drives; installing and commissioning instrumentation for data collection as requested by Engineering/Operations; maintaining and developing plant control systems; conducting routine diagnostic checks on equipment, electrical panels, and control systems; researching new industrial automation equipment and instrumentation available for use in manufacturing; and complying with safety regulations such as Arc Flash protection and PPE requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent technical degree and/or relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in automation
  • Thorough understanding of PLCs, HMIs, including advanced programming techniques and configurations (Experience with B&R Automation, Rockwell Automation and/or Automation Direct)
  • Knowledge of VFD & Servo Motor Control
  • Knowledge of Industrial Networking (EthernetIP, ModbusRTU, ModbusTCP, CanOpen, Powerlink)
  • Knowledge of Industrial Instrumentation - Level, Pressure, Flow, Temperature, Proximity Sensors, Reed Sensors, Laser Distance and Through-Beam Sensors
  • Proficiency using MS office and other tools
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work in a team environment as well as the ability to work unsupervised
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
