Job Summary
Automation Engineer leads design, management, and implementation of automation solutions for new molding and assembly programs, driving on-time delivery within budget and improving plant productivity. Responsibilities include identifying and implementing new manufacturing systems and equipment to reduce labor and improve quality, troubleshooting production automation issues, training manufacturing staff on vision systems and automated cells, leading FAT/IQ/SAT and validation activities at suppliers and sites, planning dedicated manufacturing cells to reduce lead times and inventory, and collaborating with Manufacturing and Process Engineers, Mold Setters, Quality, Automation, and Maintenance. Requires 5+ years in automation and machine programming, deep knowledge of injection molding, robotics, PLCs, and ISO/GMP/TQM/ SPC awareness, strong project management, and BS in Plastics or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Automation. The candidate should stay current with robotics and molding technology and be willing to attend relevant seminars to grow automation skill sets.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years experience with automation and machine programming
- Comprehensive knowledge of the injection molding process
- B.S. in Plastics or Mechanical Engineering with focus on Automation
- Strong knowledge of molding automation and auxiliary equipment including robotics, control systems, PLCs, and material handling
- Knowledge of ISO standards, SPC, TQM, and GMPs
- Strong project management skills including budgeting and cost justification and control
- Experience in Industrial Engineering (Labor/Time Study), DFM, SPC, and Production Monitoring Systems (Mattec)
- Ability to present information to managers, clients, customers, and manufacturing personnel
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Up-to-date knowledge of robotics, injection molding machine technology, and continuous improvement
