Automation Controls Engineer I

Job Summary

Create, modify, and maintain programs for machines, robotics, third-party integration, and complete systems. Assist Checkout Technicians with factory testing and support the Service Department by troubleshooting machines via telephone or on-site at customer facilities. Review and troubleshoot customer field issues to recommend viable solutions for quick resolution. Create documentation to share knowledge with other Controls Engineers, Checkout, and Service Technicians. Work on projects to improve speed, capacity, reliability, functionality, and ease of operation while ensuring programs follow a standardized format. Perform other tasks as assigned, including reading electrical schematics and using basic hand tools. This role involves 70-80% office work, 20-30% assembly floor or customer site visits, and a 10% travel component.

Required Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering (or Related Field)
  • two-year degree in Engineering (or equivalent and 3 years of related experience in the field of automation and robotics)
  • Familiarity with motion control, servo controls, HMI, and packaging equipment
  • Able to read, understand, analyze and problem solve electrical schematics and engineering related software programs
  • Able to use standard computer programs for work processing including Microsoft Office products
  • Able to tutor and/or lead others on designs and projects
  • Must exhibit a high level of inquisitiveness, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • Communicates clearly and effectively (verbally and non-verbally) to individuals and groups, internally and externally, to exchange ideas and convey detailed information accurately
  • Works well with a variety of people and personalities, and with other Delkor departments
  • Works collaboratively, as a team member, to suggest ideas and resolve issues in a positive manner
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and accurately with minimal supervision
  • Takes ownership of his or her area(s) of responsibility
  • Understands the need to work productively, making good use of his or her time
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to independently problem solve engineering issues
  • Innovative in developing more efficient and effective methods of completing assigned tasks

  • Possess arm and hand mobility and strength to lift, bend, hold, reach, carry, push and pull packages, supplies, and the like used by the Engineering Department and to support the production floor
  • Seventy to eighty percent (70-80%) of the work is performed in an office setting, carrying out detail work sitting at a desk and working on the computer, or working at an office table
  • Twenty to thirty percent (20-30%) of the work is performed on an assembly floor or at customer sites with exposure to tools, dirt, dust, chemicals, metals and plastics, varying temperatures, construction noises and odors from production processes
  • The estimated amount of time spent traveling to customer sites is ten percent (10%)
