Job Summary
Automation and Instrumentation Engineer to design, implement, and maintain automation and instrumentation systems for hydroelectric power plants. Responsibilities include designing and developing automation and instrumentation solutions, configuring and programming PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems, and detailing instrumentation for turbine-generator units (instrument selection, junction boxes, cable lists, electrical diagrams, cable trays, conduits, and load calculations). Conduct system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance, and develop/maintain technical documentation. Ensure compliance with applicable industrial standards and safety regulations. Provide technical support and training to quality, procurement, service teams, and plant operators; develop technical specifications and procedures for equipment procurement and manufacturing; interface with clients on technical matters. Willingness to travel to project sites as needed and operate within a team environment across departments in North America, with a focus on hydroelectric project goals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation, preferably in the hydroelectric or energy sector
- Proficient in programming and configuring automation platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider)
- Strong understanding of control system architecture and industrial communication protocols
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed
- Knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards
