Automation and Controls Engineer

Job Summary
Implement and maintain machine control systems to ensure equipment uptime while supporting new product and process development. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production and ancillary equipment, including legacy machinery, and design, build, and retrofit controller systems for both new and existing process equipment. Develop and test PLC programs primarily on the Siemens platform, create SCADA dashboards, and write unit tests with full documentation support. Design minor electrical drawings and schematics, collaborate on electrical cabinet design, and ensure adherence to safety standards across the medical manufacturing environment. This on-site role in Palm Coast, FL, requires 30% travel and involves working with Siemens, Beckhoff, and Allen Bradley PLCs to advance automation capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with an emphasis on electrical engineering skills
- Equivalent work experience to a bachelor's degree
- Substantial hands-on experience troubleshooting machinery
- Comfortable solving complex electrical control system problems
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting machinery including situations where schematics may be limited
- Ability to work effectively with legacy machinery
- Ability to work effectively with newer automated systems
- Familiarity with common PLCs such as Allen Bradley
- Familiarity with common PLCs such as Mitsubishi
- Familiarity with common PLCs such as Siemens
- Understanding of board-level electronics
- Understanding of motor controllers and drives
- Understanding of safety systems
- Understanding of temperature controllers
- Understanding of industrial communication protocols
- Understanding of network configurations
- Understanding of electrical cabinet design
- Understanding of a range of motor types including AC/DC
- Understanding of a range of motor types including 3 phase
- Understanding of a range of motor types including stepper
- Understanding of a range of motor types including servo
