Job Summary
Assess, repair, and reassemble vehicles to restore them to pre-accident condition using cutting guns, plasma cutters, hydraulic jacks, and various hand tools. Hammers out dents, realign chassis and frames, replace damaged sections with new or aftermarket parts, and weld or attach components. Mix filler resins, replace or repair glass and interior parts, and prepare vehicles for factory-specified or agreed-upon paint. Plan repair work, prepare cost estimates, and inspect vehicles after repair to ensure correct execution. Complete work orders within labor time guidelines while maintaining safety in noisy areas with odors and lifting up to 30 pounds. Perform other related duties as assigned to achieve repair facility KPIs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of technical school program OR a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer
- Ability to read job orders and work with very little supervision
- Ability to work with other repairers within an auto body shop
- Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to repair vehicle bodies
- Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trade
- Ability to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds at times
- Ability to visually inspect vehicle damage in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections
