Job Summary
Assess and repair customer vehicles to restore them to pre-accident condition, ensuring speed, quality, and customer excellence. Disassemble, reassemble, and replace damaged sections using tools like cutting guns and hydraulic jacks. Hammers out dents, apply filler resins, realign chassis frames, and replace or repair glass and interior parts. Weld, attach parts, and prepare vehicles for factory-specified or agreed-upon paint. Plan repairs, prepare cost estimates, and inspect work to meet labor time guidelines. Requires high school diploma, technical school completion, or apprenticeship. Must work safely in noisy areas with odors, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform physical tasks including bending and squatting.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of technical school program OR a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer
- Ability to read job orders and work with very little supervision
- Ability to work with other repairers within an auto body shop
- Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to repair vehicle bodies
- Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trade
- Ability to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds at times
- Ability to visually inspect vehicle damage in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections
