Job Summary
Assess and repair customer vehicles to restore them to pre-accident condition using tools like cutting guns, plasma cutters, and hydraulic jacks. Disassemble, reassemble, and replace damaged sections, including chassis realignment, glass repair, and interior work. Weld parts, apply filler resins, and repaint vehicles with factory-specified paint. Prepare cost estimates, inspect completed work, and complete orders within labor time guidelines while ensuring safety in noisy, odor-filled environments. Requires high school diploma, technical school completion, or apprenticeship. Flat rate compensation of $24–$29 per hour tied to booked hours.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of technical school program OR a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer
- Ability to read job orders and work with very little supervision
- Ability to work with other repairers within an auto body shop
- Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to repair vehicle bodies
- Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trade
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times
- Must be able to visually inspect vehicle damage in a variety of weather conditions
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections
