Job Summary
Coordinate referrals and handle patient insurance verification for dermatology referrals in a per diem role. Responsibilities include receiving and reviewing referral requests, ensuring documentation meets standards, communicating with referring providers and patients about the referral process, scheduling specialist appointments, maintaining accurate referral activity records in the EHR, generating status reports, verifying insurance coverage and coordinating pre-authorizations, navigating IPA/HMO portals (Optum, Hoag Physician Partners, Availity), arranging appointments or diagnostic tests, ensuring alignment with patient and specialist availability, tracking pending referrals, and following up with patients. Collaborates with administrative staff, healthcare providers, and specialists to optimize referral workflows, and participates in regular team meetings. Requires familiarity with IPA/HMO portals and strong organizational and communication skills in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Experience in insurance eligibility verification and prior authorization within a medical setting, preferably dermatology
- Proficiency in medical terminology, insurance processes, and electronic health record systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Familiarity with navigating IPA/HMO portals such as Optum, Hoag Physician Partners, and Availity
