Job Summary
Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on technical tax and transactional issues for tax equity investments and syndication. Support due diligence by reviewing data rooms, project contracts, and agreements to confirm tax credit eligibility, then draft, negotiate, and coordinate execution of investment documents including operative agreements and insurance policies. Monitor ongoing compliance for all tax credit investments on behalf of Nelnet and co-investors, while assisting with entity formation and legal reorganizations. Work directly with legal, finance, and tax leaders to ensure cross-functional collaboration for NRE entities. Requires a Juris Doctor and 2+ years of corporate or transactional legal practice. Annual compensation is $120,000 with a hybrid work option for those within 30 miles of an office.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice law, and good standing, in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 2+ years of corporate or transactional legal practice, at a law firm or in-house
- Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or Environmental Sciences
- Tax credit investment, renewable energy project finance, or real estate/fund transaction experience
- Familiarity with partnership structures and taxation
- Broad business knowledge (accounting and tax preferred)
- Genuine interest in renewable energy and tax-advantaged investing
