Job Summary
Review docketing statements, motions, opinions, and certified records to identify jurisdictional issues and problems requiring attention before listing appeals. Conduct comprehensive reviews of trial court dockets and prepare memoranda, recommendations, summaries, and draft orders for review by the Motions Panel and Judges. Assist in research projects, edit team members' work, and collaborate with judicial chambers to resolve civil case matters. Work directly with the Superior Court Prothonotary's office to resolve appeal docket issues. Perform related work as required.
Required Qualifications
- Exceptional legal research and writing skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines
- J.D. from ABA-accredited law school
- Admitted to and in active standing with the practice of law before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania
- Primary location in Philadelphia or Harrisburg
- Eligibility to telework on a hybrid work schedule after the first 6 months of employment
- Familiarity with Pennsylvania Rules of Appellate Procedure
- Familiarity with Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Ability to maintain a high level of integrity
- Satisfactory criminal background check
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with civil matters
- Prior experience with or before Pennsylvania appellate courts
- A writing sample (fewer than 10 pages)
