Job Summary
Represent indigent clients charged with criminal offenses in Maricopa County by appearing in court, advocating aggressively on behalf of clients, and presenting cases in all phases of proceedings. Research facts and analyze legal issues using computerized and printed tools, then compose motions, briefs, and correspondence. Prepare cases for trial by interviewing witnesses, visiting crime scenes, and reviewing evidence on and off-site. Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel while traveling to courts, jails, and detention centers. Discuss legal analyses with clients and team members, including mitigation specialists and investigators. Meet high-volume deadlines with accuracy and decision-making under time pressure, adhering to a scheduled workday subject to County vehicle policies.
Required Qualifications
- Three years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney
- License to practice law and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved law school
- Valid Arizona driver's license
- Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation
- Must pass drug and alcohol testing requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Five years or more of experience as a practicing attorney in the area of criminal law
- Experience with felony criminal cases
