Job Summary
Review new and transfer file assignments with initial evaluation letters and serve initial discovery within 30 days of receipt. Summarize discovery responses and medical records within 30 days. Conduct depositions of parties, lay witnesses, and experts, completing summaries within 20 days. Prepare motions, oppositions, and replies for law and motion proceedings, including court appearances. Manage trial preparation, conduct jury trials, and handle posttrial motions. Handle miscellaneous tasks assigned by managing attorneys to defend insureds in personal injury cases involving injections without completed surgeries and values up to $150,000. Requires considerable automobile travel up to 20% of work time.
Required Qualifications
- law degree
- admission to the bar in the state(s) where practicing
- 3+ years of insurance defense or related experience
- Experience as the primary attorney defending personal injury lawsuits
- 3+ insurance defense personal injury trials to verdict or equivalent litigation experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of insurance, torts, evidence, civil procedure, and trial practice
- Effective communication, persuasion and analytical skills
- considerable automobile travel, up to 20% of work time
- established company standards regarding personal driving history and current license status
- ability to work independently with minimum direction
- good organizational skills necessary to manage a caseload with exposures up to $150,000
Desired Qualifications
- law degree from a state accredited or ABA accredited law school
- 5+ years of insurance defense experience
- 7+ insurance defense personal injury trials to verdict
- Exceptional communication, use of persuasion and analytical skills
