Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive admissions assessments, review medical histories, and update patient treatment plans through team rounds and consultations. Manage medication for patients without a psychiatrist, diagnose and treat various medical conditions, and coordinate care with outside providers and family members. Provide education groups on psychiatric symptoms, medications, and coping skills while mentoring fellows, residents, and students through onsite supervision, lectures, and didactics. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, scholarly activities, and grant-funded research projects. Rotate weekend coverage for inpatient, ED, and consultation services, sharing cross-coverage during academic days and when other providers are unavailable.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or ECFMG certification
- Completion of a residency or fellowship training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii
- Current board certification in Psychiatry or related specialty, by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty certification board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA or the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
- If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within two (2) years of entrance into the position
- Two (2) years experience in treating patients who have been clinically diagnosed with mental illness
- Eligible for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine
Desired Qualifications
- Training and/or experience working in the hospital settings, including emergency room psychiatry and child/adolescent residential and acute care
- Experience in working in healthcare teams, community, and systems of care
- Eligible for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine preferred
