Job Summary
Skilled General Maintenance II on the ATSU Kirksville campus performing general construction, project work, and routine to complex maintenance and repairs across various facilities including classrooms, labs, patient care, mechanical rooms, roofs, housing, and outdoor areas. Responsibilities include troubleshooting building systems (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, roofing, masonry, painting, carpentry, locksmithing), responding to service requests, working independently or with a team to layout and complete repairs, conducting routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance, root-cause analysis to determine action with minimal impact on campus populations, performing general and complex construction tasks, electronic record keeping for work requests, operating university vehicles, coordinating with vendors, and assisting with snow removal and other weather-related tasks. Requires physical capability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and operate various tools and machinery; valid driver’s license; willingness to work occasional nights/weekends and to engage in safe, compliant operations.
Required Qualifications
- High School plus one year technical training or schooling or equivalent job experience
- Over five years experience in trades work including electrical, HVAC refrigeration, code requirements, plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, roofing, locksmithing; experience general construction; experience working in operations and maintenance and / or construction; knowledge of code requirement
- Be able to operate common power tools in a safe and efficient manner
- Work independently, able to layout complete jobs efficiently
- Able to select appropriate materials for job independently
- Professional finish skills including finish carpentry, sheet rock, painting
- Specialized skills in addition to Skilled General Maintenance such as brick/ masonry work, locksmithing, or concrete finish work
- Ability to read and understand building drawings
- Basic computer skills (i.e. researching vendors/suppliers)
- Frequently climb ladders, bend under equipment and crawl
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Experience operating complex machinery and equipment
- Ability to operate work utility vehicle and trailers
- Have a valid driver's license
