Job Summary
Coordinate and administer a comprehensive health care program for all student athletes, provide immediate care of injured athletes, and implement techniques to prevent athletic injuries. Responsible for evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries; advise coaches and coordinate with doctors, athletes, and parents; ensure players participate only when capable and that physicians’ instructions are followed. Supervises the athletic training room, attends practices and games, conducts in-service programs for coaching staff, maintains medical records, and ensures CPR/First Aid certification for coaches. Supports safety decisions related to playing surfaces and conditions. Requires on-site decisions regarding player status in absence of a physician.
Required Qualifications
- Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) and maintain that association’s standards
- Must be licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as an Athletic Trainer or be eligible for licensure
- Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and medical personnel to ensure proper prevention and treatment of injuries
- Must be a Certified First Aid/CPR Instructor, or willing to complete the certification upon hiring
