Job Summary

Develop comprehensive emergency plans for athletic facilities and provide immediate on-site care for acute injuries and medical emergencies during practices and games. Evaluate and manage athletic injuries, referring athletes to medical facilities when necessary while maintaining high-quality injury records and reports. Prevent injuries through protective taping, wraps, and braces, and advise coaches on flexibility and conditioning programs. Serve as a liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes, and parents, handling clerical tasks such as inventory management and budget assistance. Ensure compliance with district health care policies and emergency action plans, requiring current CPR and first aid certifications plus annual concussion management training.

Required Qualifications

  • Current certifications in both cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid from a recognized organization like the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Training in concussion management and injury prevention and management
  • Completion of 10 hours of staff development annually, specifically focused on first aid, injury recognition, and prevention
  • Physical presence at all high school football practices and games
  • Familiarity with and ability to help implement the school's written Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for each athletic venue
  • Ability to recognize and evaluate injuries and medical conditions that occur during practice or games
  • Ability to provide immediate first aid or emergency care, including stabilizing an injured athlete until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive
  • Knowledge of when to refer an athlete to a physician or higher level of care
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school and district staff
  • Ability to instruct others through explanation, demonstration and supervised practice
  • Ability to make recommendations on the basis of technical disciplines
  • Ability to complete, process, and maintain required records, reports, and other information
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective communications with school and district employees, the school principal, athletic director and the public
  • Ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention
  • Ability to work with students
  • Ability to move/lift items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to handle occasional local travel
  • Ability to handle occasional overnight travel
