Job Summary
Oversee K-12 secondary school sports coaching, delivering core movement and sport-specific skills training while supervising practice schedules and athlete teams. Instruct students on fundamentals, coordinate try-outs, manage equipment issuance, and establish team rules and policies. Guide student athletes in making appropriate decisions regarding further participation and monitor delivery impacts on healthy lifestyles. Report to the School Site Athletic Director, requiring frequent travel for off-site competitions and moderate physical effort.
Required Qualifications
- Certified employee serving in a teaching or administrative position
- A certified paraprofessional
- Evidence of completion of the required lay coach courses (GHSA Principles for Coaching and NCSS PREPARE/First Aid)
- Completion of the GHSA Head Coaching Class
- Follow all policies/procedures outlined for head coaches
- Ability to manage projects and duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to effectively manage time and priorities
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Analytical mindset
- Emphasis on safety precautions
- Awareness of best training procedures and injury preventative actions
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- High-level accountability for effective operation and results
- Regular, frequent contact with internal and external personnel
- Decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance
- Responsibility for multiple functions of supervision (athletes, equipment and staff as needed)
- Requirement to require frequent travel for off-site competition/training locations
- Work in a variable environment (Office Setting, School grounds, Stadiums)
- Physical effort 70% of the time or more outdoors
- Moderate lifting
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in coaching or playing the sport
- Experience with inventory of equipment and scheduling
