Job Summary
Announce and enforce rules regarding player conditioning, health, and safety while verifying insurance and sportsmanship contracts for all team members. Supervise practices and contests, ensuring athletes are picked up and monitored at all times, including locker room oversight. Monitor weekly academic progress and report injuries to the athletic trainer, completing necessary forms and securing doctor/parent approval for return-to-play. Organize practice and game responsibilities, conduct tryouts, and lead staff meetings. Attend mandatory FHSAA clinics and professional development sessions to maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and concussion management. Support the total educational program and improve athletic standards within the school.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Completion of required athletic coaching courses to include First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Concussion in Sports (NFHS courses), AED training, Florida Department of Education Certificate (Athletic Coaching)
- Knowledge of the sport and the strategies associated with the sport
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong creative problem solving skills
- Strong time management skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to conduct staff meetings and be in charge of all tryouts, practices, team meetings, and athletic contests for the sport
- Ability to be a role model for all student-athletes by conducting your behavior in a professional manner at all times
- Ability to motivate student-athletes to produce their best effort and results
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience preferred as an athletic coach or in the coaching arena
