Job Summary
Athletic Coach position for Girls Volleyball at Oakland Unified School District in Oakland, CA for Fall 2026. Responsibilities include instructing and coaching students in volleyball, helping arrange playing schedules, and performing coaching duties with adherence to required trainings and district/campus policies. Must demonstrate knowledge of coaching theory and techniques for high school level, safety standards, and strong ethics in sportsmanship. Requires knowledge of adolescent psychology, ability to communicate with parents/guardians and school staff, and knowledge of CIF policies. Certifications required include CPR and First Aid (or equivalent), plus additional injury-care credentials (e.g., EMT or Sports Injury Certificate) as well as coaching training credentials. Preference given to current certificated district employees with CA teaching credential. Part-time role with emphasis on developing teamwork, commitment, and discipline among players and providing academic encouragement. Will attend required meetings and trainings as specified by OAL and site administration.
Required Qualifications
- Valid, current CPR card AND Valid, current First Aid card OR proof of completing a college-level course in the care/prevention of athletic injuries OR a valid EMT I or II card OR A valid Sports Injury Certificate
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest knowledge
- Concussion knowledge
- Heat illness prevention knowledge
- Fundamentals of coaching training (high school) OR Coaching Essentials training (middle school)
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation
- Knowledge, skill and ability to maintain safety in coaching at practices and contests
- Demonstrated high ethical standards related to sportsmanship and relationships with students
- Knowledge of CIF policies related to athletics
- Ability to communicate with parents/guardians and appropriate school staff
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport at the high school level
- Evidence of coaching theory/techniques showing ability to coach the sport at high school level
- Previous successful coaching experience at the level of the vacancy preferred
- Evidence of knowledge of coaching theory and techniques in the sport
