Job Summary
Instruct and coach students in cross country; help arrange seasonal schedules; perform coaching responsibilities and attend required meetings/trainings; must meet safety and certification requirements (CPR, First Aid, and related coaching trainings) and demonstrate knowledge of coaching theory, adolescent psychology, CIF rules, and safety standards to foster teamwork, discipline, and academic encouragement for student-athletes in Oakland Unified School District. Previous coaching experience at the high school level will be given additional weight, and candidates should be prepared to communicate with parents/guardians and school staff about issues arising during practices or contests.
Required Qualifications
- Current CPR card
- Current First Aid card OR college-level course in care/prevention of athletic injuries OR EMT I/II card OR Sports Injury Certificate
- Knowledge of CIF policies
- Coaching theory and techniques in sport
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation
- Demonstrated safety standards in practices and contests
- Ability to communicate with parents/guardians and staff about problems or emergencies
- Experience coaching at high school level preferred
