Job Summary
Athletic Coach for Girls Cross Country at Oakland Tech for Fall 2026, responsible for instructing and coaching students in the sport, helping arrange practice and competition schedules, and fulfilling coaching duties. Must meet coaching certifications and safety requirements: CPR and First Aid, or an approved injury-care course or EMT certification, Sports Injury Certificate, concussion and sudden cardiac arrest readiness, COVID safety compliance, and foundational coaching training (Fundamentals of Coaching or Coaching Essentials). Requires knowledge of high school sports rules (CIF), adolescent psychology related to youth athletes, safety in coaching, ethical conduct, and effective communication with parents and school staff. Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork, discipline, and academic encouragement among student-athletes; prior coaching experience at the high school level preferred. Must be a capable partner with the school to support student-athletes, families, and the broader school community.
Required Qualifications
- Injury prevention/treatment: Valid, current CPR card AND Valid, current First Aid card OR proof of completing a college-level course in the care/prevention of athletic injuries OR a valid EMT I or II card OR a valid Sports Injury Certificate
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- Concussion
- Heat illness prevention
- Fundamentals of coaching training (high school) OR Coaching Essentials training (middle school)
- COVID Safety
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport at the high school level
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation
- Knowledge, skill and ability to maintain high standards of safety in all aspects of coaching at practices as well as contests
- Demonstrated high ethical standards related to sportsmanship, fair play and relationships with students
- Recognition of the need to communicate with parents / guardians and appropriate school staff members regarding problems or emergencies during a sporting event
- Knowledge of school policies and CIF policies related to athletics
- Overall Applicant Assessment: ability to instill teamwork, commitment and discipline, developing positive relations and support from parents and the community and offering academic encouragement and support to students
- Previous successful experiences coaching the sport at the level of the vacancy
