Job Summary
Athletic Coach for Girls Cross Country at Oakland Unified School District; responsible for instructing and coaching students in cross country, organizing schedules, attending required meetings/trainings, and upholding safety and ethical standards. Requires CPR/First Aid or equivalent, sports-injury related certifications, concussion and heat-illness prevention knowledge, and coaching-training credentials. Strong emphasis on coaching theory, adolescent psychology, student welfare, communication with guardians and staff, and adherence to CIF policies. Previous coaching experience at high school level preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Injury prevention/treatment: Valid CPR, First Aid or equivalent training, or college coursework in care/prevention of athletic injuries or EMT certificate or Sports Injury Certificate
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest knowledge
- Concussion
- Heat illness prevention
- Fundamentals of coaching (high school) or Coaching Essentials (middle school)
- COVID Safety
- Ability to demonstrate coaching theory and techniques
- Knowledge of rules and regulations at high school level
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology related to sports participation
- Applicant must meet district athletic program standards including teamwork, commitment, discipline, and community relations
- Knowledge of CIF policies related to athletics
- Preference for current Oakland Unified School District certificated employees with CA teaching credential
