Job Summary
Athletic Coach position focused on coaching fall coed cheerleading with responsibilities including instructing and coaching students, arranging practice/schedules, performing coaching duties, and attending required meetings/trainings. Preference given to current certificated Oakland Unified School District employees with a valid CA teaching credential. Requires multiple certifications in injury prevention/treatment (CPR, First Aid, EMT or related), concussion and sudden cardiac arrest awareness, sports-injury care, and coaching training (high school or middle school). Knowledge of coaching theory, adolescent psychology, CIF policies, and safety standards; ability to communicate with parents/guardians and school staff; demonstrated ethics and teamwork; and ability to support students academically and interpersonally.
Required Qualifications
- Certifications required: CPR, First Aid or equivalent
- EMT I or II or valid Sports Injury Certificate
- Concussion knowledge
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest knowledge
- Fundamentals of coaching training (high school) OR Coaching Essentials training (middle school)
- COVID Safety knowledge
- Knowledge of CIF policies
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology related to sports participation
- Written evidence of coaching knowledge (course work, prior coaching, or participation in sport at high school level)
- Knowledge of rules/regulations of sport at high school level
- Ability to instill teamwork, commitment, discipline; communicate with parents/guardians and school staff
- Valid CA teaching credential preferred for consideration
- Injury prevention/treatment certifications
- Participation in required trainings via OAL
- Proof of completing relevant trainings
