Job Summary
Athletic Coach position for Fall Boys Cross Country (Skyline) in Oakland, CA, with part-time schedule for Fall 2026. Responsibilities include instructing and coaching students in the sport, assisting with scheduling of matches/season events, performing coaching duties, and attending required meetings/trainings as specified by OAL. Candidate must meet coaching knowledge requirements, safety standards, and ethical expectations, and possess or demonstrate knowledge of coaching theory and techniques, adolescent psychology related to sports participation, and CIF policies. Preference given to current certificated employees of Oakland Unified School District with a valid CA teaching credential; required certifications include CPR, First Aid, or equivalent coursework/EMT/Sports Injury credentials, concussion and heat illness prevention knowledge, and coaching training appropriate for HS/Middle School. Evidence of relevant coursework, prior coaching experience, or active involvement with youth in school/community sports will fulfill requirements; strong communication with parents and staff is essential; ability to instill teamwork, discipline, and academic encouragement in student-athletes will be weighed in candidate assessment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid, current CPR card
- Valid, current First Aid card OR proof of completing a college-level course in the care/prevention of athletic injuries OR a valid EMT I or II card OR a valid Sports Injury Certificate
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- Concussion
- Heat illness prevention
- Fundamentals of coaching training (high school) OR Coaching Essentials training (middle school)
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport at the high school level
- Knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation
- Knowledge, skill and ability sufficient to maintain high standards of safety in all aspects of coaching at practices as well as contests
- Demonstrated high ethical standards related to sportsmanship, fair play and relationships with students
- Recognition of the need to communicate with parents/guardians and appropriate school staff members regarding problems or emergencies
- Knowledge of school policies and California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) policies related to athletics
